I started my marketing career over 25 years ago, having graduated with a degree in Public Relations.  At that time, the world wide web was in its infancy and social media didn’t exist, so there weren’t the different branches of digital marketing like we know today.

Bridging the worlds of strategy and soul

After years of working in traditional marketing — the kind with launch plans, customer journeys, the four Ps (product, price, place, promotion) conversion rates and all the lingo — I got really curious about how marketing could come from a different place.  A place of inspiration rather than manipulation and I started to feel the nudge.  I got really into (and still am!) personal development and have continually been pulled towards something deeper. Not instead of, but in addition to. Yes I can still do all the strategising, audience profiling, campaign creation etc. but the energy it comes from is different.

I realised that marketing could feel different.  It didn’t have to feel like hustling.  Like you were always trying to convince somebody to buy your product or service, rather than simply sharing what you have to offer, serving and inspiring them to work with or buy from you.

What I’ve come to see is that marketing is simply an extension of who you are — not something you have to force, fake, or figure out with a complicated funnel? People connect with you, more than what you have to offer. Sounds a bit backward, right, but in a world where you can buy the same product or service from many different people or companies, what is it that makes people buy from YOU? If people are shopping just on price or features and making their decisions based on that, then you’re a commodity. If they’re buying from you because they love your energy, your purpose, what you stand for etc. then you’re an ‘authority of one’ and working with you becomes a no-brainer.

So now, I combine the solid marketing foundations I know with my infinite curiosity around human behaviour, personal growth, and how we’re wired beneath the surface.

Because to me, soul-aligned marketing is the sweet spot where strategy meets self-awareness, where purpose fuels promotion, and where clarity, simplicity and resonance replace hustle and hype.

So, let’s go deeper – what is soul-aligned marketing?

For me, it’s marketing that starts with your essence — not your ego. Now… let’s talk about the word soul for a sec.  I get it. It can sound a bit woo woo, a bit floaty, maybe even a bit “ugh, here we go…” I’ve rolled my eyes at it too — especially when it feels disconnected from the practical, real-world stuff we have to deal with as business owners.

But the truth is, soul isn’t out there somewhere — it’s the most real part of us. It’s the part that knows who we are underneath the noise. So when we talk about soul-aligned marketing, we’re not escaping reality… we’re anchoring to it and marketing from that place matters now more than ever.

Why?

Because we live in a world where we’re bombarded with strategies, templates, and must-do tactics, it’s easy to lose sight of the simplest truth: that your energy speaks louder than your algorithm.

It’s true.

People are craving real. Not curated. Not perfect. Not polished to the point of plastic. They want to feel something. And they can feel when you’re trying to fit yourself into a marketing box that doesn’t match who you are.

Let’s keep it real

I’ve wrestled with all of this too. Imposter syndrome? Been there. Feeling like I had to show up a certain way to be “taken seriously”? Yep. Getting stuck in a cycle of overthinking instead of just sharing from the heart? Ohhh yes!

But here’s what I’ve learned (and keep learning): the magic happens when I stop trying and start being — when I show up in service, in curiosity, in truth.

Now, I don’t chase clients, but instead I simply connect with people and serve them in the best way I can – with nothing on it.  No expectations of them even becoming a client, just simply helping, making a difference and being authentic.

What if marketing could simply feel like an act of self-expression?

So what if marketing could actually be playful, grounded and joyful? What if you could build a business by showing up as you — fully, unapologetically, beautifully? That’s what soul-aligned marketing is to me. It’s not about pushing or pretending. Just clarity, simplicity, and resonance.

A gentle reflection…

If you’ve ever felt like traditional marketing advice just doesn’t quite sit right or if you’ve been craving a way to grow, that doesn’t leave you burned out, boxed in, or disconnected from your why…then maybe it’s time to stop forcing and start flowing.

What would your marketing look like if it were a reflection of your soul? I’d love to know!
