There’s a lot of noise out there about how to market your business.
“Do this.” “Post that.” “Use this hook.” “Say it like this or you won’t convert.”
It’s exhausting and it’s overwhelming and for many of us — especially the soul-led entrepreneurs, coaches, and creatives — it just doesn’t feel… right.
Believe me, I’ve been reeled in many times with the catchy hooks that promise to change your life and your business. Yes, I’ve bought the programmes, attended the webinars, and read the books! Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of gold in the stuff I’ve learnt, but what I realised is that none of these external influences are ‘set in stone.’ There’s not a ‘one size fits all’ that’ll get you 10 clients in 10 days (or whatever the promise is!).
And even though we sign up with the best of intentions and hopefulness that this course, programme, webinar, whatever, will make all the difference to our business, I think deep down, we know this truth: marketing that works isn’t built from the outside in. It’s built from the inside out.
It starts with you.
With your essence.
With who you are underneath the strategies and scroll-stopping content.
And when you get that aligned? The rest flows more easily than you ever thought possible.
The old way: Perform → Promote → Panic
So many of us (myself included) have fallen into the old pattern:
- Trying to sound more “professional” than we actually feel
- Copying what the “successful” people are doing
- Dulling down our uniqueness so we don’t stand out too much
- Pushing content out when we don’t even feel connected to it
It’s no wonder we start to feel a bit lost.Marketing feels like something we have to do, instead of something that can actually feel good.
The new way: Align → Express → Attract
Here’s what I believe:
Marketing isn’t about convincing.
It’s about connecting.
But before you can connect deeply with the right people, you need to start by connecting deeply with yourself.
What do you stand for?
What lights you up?
What are you here to say, shift, offer, or awaken in others?
When you’re rooted in that, your marketing becomes a reflection of your truth — not a performance of who you think you need to be.
“Essence?” Isn’t that a bit woo woo?
Yes, I know. Words like “essence,” “soul,” or “aligned” can instantly make some people’s eyes roll. Even the word ‘authentic’ is somewhat over-used these days, so I’ve done my fair share of eye-rolling myself when I’ve seen these words.
But here’s what I’ve found — again and again — in my work with clients and in my own business:
What we call your essence is often the most real part of you.
It’s the part that’s been there all along.
The part that doesn’t need dressing up or validating.
The part that doesn’t change with trends.
So when I say “align with your essence,” I’m not talking about floating away on a cloud of affirmations.
I’m talking about anchoring to what’s true for you — so you can build from solid ground.
This is where soul meets strategy
I’m not anti-strategy. In fact, I’ve spent years learning and applying traditional marketing frameworks — and I still use them.
But the game changed for me when I started combining those tools with what I know about human behaviour, self-leadership, and how we really connect.
Because let’s be honest: strategy without soul is hollow.
And soul without strategy can get stuck in the clouds.
You need both.
The real magic happens when you stop trying
If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this: the moment I stop trying to market myself and just start sharing from who I am, things shift.
The excitment builds.
The content is consistent (because I actually enjoy putting stuff out there!)
The right clients find me.
The words come easier.
The energy feels lighter.
Not because I’ve hacked an algorithm — but because I’ve come back to centre.
So if you’ve been trying all the “right” things and still feeling off… maybe it’s not about changing your message.
Maybe it’s about remembering your essence and letting that guide your message.
A few gentle questions to reflect on:
- Who are you when you’re not trying to prove anything?
- What do you really want to say in your marketing — if you weren’t worried about judgment?
- What would your content look like if it came from presence rather than pressure?
These aren’t just nice questions to journal about (though please do if it helps). They’re the starting point for building a brand that doesn’t burn you out — because it’s actually you.
Final thoughts
Marketing from the inside out isn’t about ditching all structure.
It’s about building with intention.
It’s about putting your truth before tactics.
It’s about trusting that when you’re rooted in who you are, you become magnetic — without needing to manipulate.
If you’re ready to step into that kind of marketing, you’re not alone.
Let’s make marketing feel like coming home — not performing. And watch how your business grows!
